Mural Art
MURAL ART
The one thing that characterises urban art is its range of surfaces and materials, as well as having social roots that awaken the conscience. At Paradiso Art Hotel, we are committed to urban art through our gallery situated inside the hotel: the Adda Gallery. Based in Paris and headed by Anna Dimitrova, this gallery has found its DNA in Ibiza, and its artists express themselves freely by creating temporary murals. Here are some artists who have used our walls to paint their creations.
BOA MISTURA
BOA MISTURA (meaning "good mix" in Portuguese) has already made a name for themselves in the international street art scene. Based in Madrid, this multidisciplinary collective has a highly recognisable style. Javier Serrano, Pablo Purón, Pablo Ferreiroand Juan Jaume combine their individual experiences and specialisations in architecture, advertising and fine art to offer a complete concept in which artwork and its context are studied in detail.
Steeped in graffiti culture since 2001, their art interventions are incredibly colourful and convey positive messages through simple, stark lettering. Playing with superimposition, they multiply reading comprehension and generate poetic messages loaded with symbolism. Their interventions have crossed the world, from the U.S.A. to Brazil, Georgia, Algeria, China and Kenya, sometimes covering the walls of entire villages. Boa Mistura's urban art is also on display in Ibiza at Paradiso Art Hotel, and they have held exhibitions in prestigious museums such as the Reina Sofía in Madrid or the Welt Museum in Vienna, as well as in art biennials such as Venice in 2012 or Shenzhen in 2017.
NICOLÁS VILLAMIZAR
This Colombian artist, who has lived in Madrid for over 15 years, comes from a family of architects. Although he wanted to continue this tradition, his rebelliousness led him to design the interiors of a building instead of planning it.
The funky, urban stylings of his drawings, which combine the figurative with the abstract in the pure Keith Haring style, are on the walls of many hip joints places in the Spanish capital, including Panda Club, Bar Clavel, the award-winning burger bar Junk Burger and Kulto restaurant. During his professional career, he has combined painting with illustration and creative direction for brands like Amazon.
In Ibiza, Nicolás Villamizar has painted the staircase wall leading down to the ground floor at the Standard Hotel and one of the exterior walls at Paradiso Ibiza Art Hotel. We are sure there will be more collaborations with Nicólas in the near future.
PILAR TORCAL
Pilar, a multidisciplinary artist and 80s kid born in Barcelona, fuses illustration with art direction and brand design. She has over 12 years of experience in the digital and analogue design sector between Barcelona and New York City. Before starting her freelance career, she worked as a Senior Visual Designer at the digital design agency Huge Inc. and the female-led studio MGMT.Design, both located in Dumbo, Brooklyn.
Her colourful, futuristic illustrations have been commissioned by major brands and the Spanish indie band 'Izal', for whom she created the visual identity and design for their album 'Magia y Efectos Especiales'.
The visual imagery of this peculiar artist fits perfectly with the disco-funk feel of Paradiso Ibiza Art Hotel. Our collaboration with Pilar Torcal saw her exhibit part of her work in our lobby, delighting us with an outdoor mural that was the sensation of summer 2023.
HARUN ZANKEL
Harun describes himself as an advertising and marketing creative director, graphic designer, muralist and typographer. Born in the San Francisco Bay Area and raised in New York, he has led teams at several leading international agencies: Grey, McGarryBowen, Virtue/Vice, Big Spaceship and Momentum, collaborating with some incredible people and giving him a wealth of experience in a wide variety of creative and design projects.
Zankel is undoubtedly creative; he transformed a laundromat into a mobile gaming hub with Google Play, took Lipton tea drinkers into a VR world of flavours, uncovered an HP hacker network with Jonathan Banks and elevated the sensory experience for a bunch of Ferrari fans through a series of unique experiences. He loves positively impacting people's lives through his creative endeavours. Generally, he avoids talking about himself in the third person.
Harun created a typographic artwork for Paradiso Art Hotel that will forever remain in our minds. Check out this time-lapse video of the process: https://youtu.be/dRVxQGw5MWE.
