Maria Fontanellas

Named after María herself, "MIETIS" was the affectionate nickname her father gave her when she was a child. Born in Igualada (Barcelona) in 1992, María Fontanellas created Mietis in 2017, co-founding it with her father Fernando Fontanellas, and becoming its creative director until today.María's passion for fashion and design started when she was a child, but her career as a designer began in Milan, where she studied fashion at the Istituto Marangoni. Upon her return from Milan, and motivated by her passion and curiosity to create unique pieces, she decided to create her own brand. She launched the first Mietis collection at 080 Barcelona Fashion, winning the award for best emerging designer in 2017.Her inspirations as a designer started in Milan, a city she connected with from the beginning.

Now, as a designer living in Barcelona always on the move, she draws inspiration from memorable films and artists of the past.Maria's keen eye for combining geometric silhouettes and colours, and transforming them into functional fashion accessories, is what makes Mietis unique.Maria designs from the truth of a person with the freedom to express herself, who through creativity invites others to do the same. For her, the union of innovation with a family legacy of high quality tannery, are the two pillars that make her advance as a designer and strengthen her creations as timeless pieces.
